RIPLEY'S NEW WELLFIELD TO BE LOCATED BEHIND THE HIGHSCHOOL? (Dec. 2, 2009)
RIPLEY- A new well for the Ripley water plant may be built behind the Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington High School, as Ripley village Administrator Charles Ashmore and Jeff Stine, with JD Stine and Associates, approached the RULH Board of Education about getting an easement for the project at the board’s meeting on Monday, Nov. 30. The new well would be placed back away from the existing baseball and soccer fields, and would have to have an isolated 300 foot radius around it to avoid water contamination.
Ashmore said he had begun discussions with former Superintendent Stephen Oborn three years ago about drilling test wells in the area, but the Ripley Village Council hit a snag in their planning. Now, Ashmore said that council has the funding for the test well and has hired JD Stine and Associates as the engineers for the project.
“Ripley has three existing water wells, we operate our own water system,” Ashmore said. “Those wells are getting quite old. They are still productive but we are concerned about the future. We’re trying to plan for 100 years in the future. As a result we’ve been looking for sites to construct two new water wells for the village, and the most suitable site appears to be right behind the high school here.” (Ripley Bee)
